Matt is a multi-time CISO with extensive experience in IT security, cybersecurity, IT audit, risk management, and governance. Matt is a former research director and security analyst at Gartner (NYSE:IT) and has extensive experience in IT service management including international experience in Latin America and China.  

The co-author of four books including the CISO Desk Reference Guide (Volumes 1 & 2) and the CISO Desk Reference Guide Executive Primer, Matt remains dedicated to collaborating and sharing best practices with boards of directors, executive leadership teams, and colleagues in cybersecurity, risk management, privacy, and governance. Matt's most recent book, the Data Privacy Program Guide: How to Build a Privacy Program that Inspires Trust, highlights the important intersections between privacy and cybersecurity. 

Matt is actively involved in the community and has been a long standing member of the following organizations:

Matt's diverse domain knowledge spans IT service management (ITSM), cybersecurity, cloud services, control design and assessment (Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA-HITECH, CMMC), privacy (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA), governance, enterprise risk and IT management (ERM/ITRM).

Matt received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at San Diego, where he graduated Cum Laude and with Honors and Distinction in Political Science. His graduate studies include a Master of Arts in Pacific International Affairs from the University of California at San Diego and a Master of Science degree in Telecommunications sponsored by AT&T.
